Have you ever asked yourself this question “What is wrong with Christmas?”. Have you ever really wondered where did it all start, and why do so many celebrate the birth of Christ on this date ? First thing I would like to look at is when was Christ born ? As Christians we should want to know so we can be sure that we are being obedient to Gods Word and worshipping Him in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:23-24). For us to be “TRUE” worshipper of God this is the only way that it can be done. So what about Christmas how much truth is found in this holiday ?
First of all if is very clear that the word Christmas isn’t found any where in the Bible, neither does it tell us to remember His
birth. Through our study of His death we can prove that to say that Christ was born on December 25th isn’t true and hopefully you know that the opposite of truth is a lie and Revelation 21:8 tells us that all liars will have their part in the lake that burns with fire. Of course I know you will say oh, but it is just a little white lie, but the thing to remember to God a lie is a lie.
To be honest, nobody knows exactly when the birth of Christ took place, but we can come up with an approximant time He was crucified. To do this we must look to the old testament and find out when certain things took place. Lets look at what we find in Leviticus 23:4-8 “These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. 5. In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD's passover. 6. And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread. 7. In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein. 8. But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein. These scriptures reveal to us that a certain feast of the Lord took place in a certain month which was referred to as the “First month”. The Hebrew calendar and our calendar we use today is a bit different, where we refer to our first month as January, the first month in the Hebrew calendar was called “Abib” (our march/April) which marked the month the Israel left Egypt. Which they were commanded to keep the “Feast of unleavened bread” according to Exodus 34:18. Which after captivity the month was changed to “Nisan” found in Esther 3:7
The question then should arise “What month was Jesus crucified ?” If we look at Matthew 26:17, Mark 14:1 and Luke 22:1 we find that Jesus had to have been crucified in the month which the “Feast of the unleavened bread” took place which was the month of Abib, which would have been our March/April. Now we must find out how long Jesus ministry lasted. In Daniel 9:24-27 we find that 70 weeks were determined, through further studies we find that a week is a period of seven years. Don’t believe me search it out for yourselves. Sometime after the 69 th week the Messiah (Jesus) was cut off, and in the midst of the week which would have been the half way point of 7 years which caused the sacrifice and oblation to cease which proves Jesus ministry lasted approximately 3 ½ years. So if Christ was crucified in the month of Abib (our March/April then if you count 6 months forward or backwards you will find that He was most likely born sometime between September and October. Proving that to say December 25th was the day Christ was born on is a lie within itself. See no where in the Bible does it tell us to celebrate His birth or even His death, so to even set a day aside is going against Gods word.
Now about Christmas itself, the only way you’ll find the truth about Christmas and where it came from is to look it up for yourself. Find you an encyclopedia or get on the information highway, might surprise you what you will find, not only about Christmas but also Easter. Here is a hint, Christmas and Easter was nothing more than a compromise between the Roman Catholic Church and pagans. Can’t parents see what harm they are doing to their children telling them about Santa Claus. There is only one that knows whether you have been bad or good and that is God Himself !! So what is wrong about a Christmas tree ?? It is nothing more than a graven image that people are worshipping and don’t realize it. Hear the cry of Jeremiah in Jeremiah 10:1-5 “Learn not the way of the Heathen….”. Hopeful something has been said perhaps that will stir something up within you to drive you to search things out for yourself. Most important thing you can realize is that we are “NOT” saved by His birth nor His death, but by the Life He lived, which we must also LIVE !!! Amen and Amen!!
