Reference: Matthew 25:1-13

To understand the truth of the parable ofthe virgins, we must look at the preceeding chapter of Matthew 24 where Christgives us warning of his coming to this earth the second time. Within thischapter we find many illustrations of how the people would be unaware ofChrist's coming. Jesus gives ample illustrations of his parables about the endof the world when he would be coming back to this earth but the parable revealsthat many people would be caught unprepared at this great event when it takesplace. If we will look at the parable of the ten virgins we can see that Christwas yet revealing that people would be caught unaware of his coming and hedescribed them as being like five wise and five foolish virgins. This is why hedescribed the people at his coming as being either wise or foolish. The foolishvirgins are those that thought they were ready when actually they were not. These foolish virgins believed on Christ, but they failed to have the oil intheir vessels. The wise virgins, as we can see, had the oil in their vessels aswell as having their lamps. Most people think that the foolish virgins werepeople who failed to receive Christ as their personal Saviour by theirconfession of him, but to be foolish is not what the Bible reveals as someonewho does not just accept Christ as their personal Saviour like it is socommonly believed today. Unless you realize this fact then you will be one ofthe foolish no matter how much you confess to be saved by your confession ofhim. Please notice that the Bible says that the foolish virgins took theirlamps, but they failed to take oil in their vessels. The lamp signifies to bethe written word of God. Many today claim to believe the Bible thus provingthem to have the lamp.

Many that claim to believe the Bible don't even know asmall percent of its contents. We are told in Ephesians4:11-13 that Christgave the ministerial gifts to the church to perfect the saints till they allcome to the fulness and the stature of the measure of Christ. According tothese verses of scripture we are to come to the unity of the faith and of theknowledge of the Son of God filled with all his fulness, but to look at thechurch today we can plainly see that it is void of the truth that will do thisvery thing. The parable of the virgins is about those who had the oil in theirvessels and of those who did not. The foolish thought they had the oil but whenit came lamp trimming time they found out that they did not have any oil intheir vessels. We must understand what the oil is and what the vessels is inorder to know that we possess it. The wise took their lamps and they also tookoil in their vessels, but the foolish virgins did not take oil along with themin them in their vessels. When the bridgroom came the wise went into themarriage supper, but the foolish virgins did not enter in because they had nooil in their vessels. The five wise virgins were considered to be wise becausethey knew the knowledge of the truth that the gospel reveals but the foolishwas void of the truth. To be wise means that you have come to the knowledge ofthe truth that the gospel reveals. The foolish were foolish because they didnot have enough zeal and love for the word of God that would have set them freefrom the power of sin. We are told in Psalms19:7 that the law of the Lord isperfect converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure making WISE thesimple...  The testimony of the Lord ishis truth revealed in the gospel. The knowledge of the truth revealed in thegospel will make you wise unto salvation as Paul states in II Timothy 3:16-17.The foolish virgins are void of the truth but yet confess to be children ofGod. Their confession of Christ is the lamp they had, but they were void of thetruth that the gospel contains. People today are void of the revelation oftruth but still they confess to be saved and born again christians. Thedenominational church today only teach that you confess Christ and receive himas your personal Saviour and this is all there is to salvation. They fail tocontinue on in the word for the truth that will set them free as so stated in John 8:30-32. The commonbelief today is that the oil is the Holy Spirit, but this is only a half truthbecause without the Spirit you will never come to the knowledge of the truthrevealed in the Bible. The foolish virgins believed they were ready to enterinto the marriage supper of the Lamb, but they came to find out that they didnot possess the oil in their vessels. The vessels is our body which is thetemple of God. Today each church member believe they have the Spirit upon theirconfession of Christ taking him as their personal Lord and Saviour. This beliefwill cause you to fail to come to the revealed knowledge of the truth that thegospel holds. They have only the word which is the lamp. They do not have theoil of the truth in their heart and lives. Most people today don't know whatthe four gospels are. Yet many confess to be born again christians. If you arevoid of the truth then you are one of the foolish virgins that will find outthat you have no oil in your vessel. The wise are they who received the truthand walked in it no matter what price they had to pay. They know that the truthis the oil and without it they would be lost. How well do you know thescriptures my friend? Do you know them like young Timothy did? In II Timothy weare told that from his childhood he knew them which were able to make him WISEunto salvation which is in Christ Jesus. What is your excuse for not knowingthe scriptures? Are you too busy with the things of this life? The Bible tellsus that the fool has said in his heart that there is no God. A fool is a personvoid of the truth because if you want nothing to do with the Bible then youwant nothing to do with living forever in a realm that is undescribable by themaster minds of this world. Jesus tells us to be wise as serpents and harmlessas doves. Most are wise as doves and harmless as serpents instead. My friendyou are foolish to allow Satan to cause you to lose your soul for the pleasureof sin for a season.
