Reference: Romans 5:5
The apostle Paul is telling us in theabove verse of scripture that God's love is shed abroad in our hearts by theHoly Ghost which is given to us. Now just what is this love of God that'sspoken of here in this scripture? I have heard hundreds of people say that theylove God, but I know for a fact that most of these people are totally void ofthe truth as to what the love of God actually is.
Many times you will hear people get up inan assembly of some church and testify to the fact that they love the Lord withall their heart. Now Jesus said that many would honour him with their mouth,but their heart would be far from him. Did you know my friend that you can sayyou love the Lord a hundred times a day and yet be proven that you reallydon't? Are you aware of the fact my friend that actions speak louder than yourmouth?
I have heard people say that they lovetheir wife and family, but yet treat them like dirt. I have heard many peoplesay that they love many different things, but their deeds proves otherwise. Weare told in God's word that the heart is deceitful above all things anddesperately wicked, but I wonder how many people realize that their own heartcan deceive them?
Did you know my friend that God knows yourheart a thousand times better than you do? And did you know that there is butone true way that you can know your own heart? Jeremiah the prophet asked thequestion as to who can know the heart and if you will read the very next verseof scripture that's found in Jeremiah 17:10 you will find that it says that the Lord is the one thatsearches the heart and tries the reins even to give every man according to hisways. Now friend if you want to really know your own heart then you must allowthe word of God to let you know. Now if you say that you love the Lord with allyour heart and fail to keep his every word revealed in the gospel, then you arefooling yourself and you don't love him like you think you do.
Do you deeply realize that God is the Wordand if you are ignorant of the what the word of God reveals then you aredeceived and your own heart is the cause of it? Now I just about know for afact that most people's love for God, as they say that they have, is nothingmore than a mental knowledge of the mind thinking that God is something to beloved and worshipped in some far off distant world that can't be explained.
Most people today who confess to believeon Christ only believe on him as being a person who lived hundreds of years agoand not truly realizing that Christ is the revealed living Word of God. If youdon't love the word of God my friend then you absolutely don't truly love God,because God is the Word. The Bible plainly says that God is the Word and italso says that the Word was made flesh and dwelled among man.
Now we know that the Word that was madeflesh was none other than Jesus Christ himself. Christ was the Word made flesh,but when he ascended back to heaven he took upon himself the form of Spiritlike he was before he became flesh. The word that is God is not the wordswritten in the Bible that the natural eye can see, but rather he is therevealed living Word that the Holy Ghost reveals to a person.
Christ is the truth revealed in thegospel. The truth of God's word is very powerful and will have a quickeningeffect on those who receives and obeys it. David the psalmist said that God'sword is what quickened him. (Psalm 119:50) The truth of God's word is exactly what spirituallyquickens a person and gives them eternal life. To be quickened by the word ofGod means to be effected in some way by the word. God's word has a transformingeffect on the whole man that consists of a body, a soul, and a spirit.
Many religious groups today thinks that tobe quickened by the Word means that you will be very emotional manifesting inmany instances a fleshly demonstration like they were drunk on wine or someother strong drink. The word of God quickens a person in a progressive mannerspiritually raising them from a dead in sin state to a new life entirelyopposite to the natural life.
Sad to say there has been millions ofpeople caught in the snare of fleshly lusts thinking a person is spiritual bythe way they act during a church service. The Pentecostal movements of todayhas been led to believe that outbursts of wild fleshly demonstrations provesthat a person is spiritual being motivated by the Holy Spirit. I have seen manyconfessing christians display many wild frantics in church claiming to possessthe power of God while all the time they confess to the fact that they arehelpless to sin's power and suffer many times from many diseases and sicknessesthat the world is so filled with.
They claim boldly that they love the Lord,but attempting to tell them what the word of God has to say will many timescause them to throw a spiritual fit. There are very few people today who trulylove God's word like true children of God will. It's very easy to detect thefalse confessing christian by what manner of conversation they have. Attemptingto talk about the Bible in the presence of most people will cause them toquickly change the subject or get up and leave.
If you are a confessing christian and donot have a deep love for the word of God then friend you are not what you thinkyou are, because the children of God loves God's word more than anything else.Reading the book of Psalms written mostly by David will reveal the fact that heloved the word of God more than life itself and was constantly meditating in itday and night. David said he utterly loved the law of the Lord which is hisword of the Bible. If you don't love God's word then you don't love God simplybecause GOD IS THE WORD!
If you truly have the Spirit of God inyour heart then I'm sure that you would love the word of God, because the HolySpirit will lead and guide every believer into the word giving them a deeprooted love for it. Paul tells us in Romans8:5 that they that are after theSpirit do mind the things of God. The things of God are revealed in the word ofthe Bible.
Any person who does not desire and lovethe word of God is yet carnal minded and mind the things of the flesh. We aretold that the carnal mind is enmity against God and is not subject to God'slaw. An excellent way to know that a person is of God and loves him or not canbe proven by their attitude toward the word of God revealed in the Bible. Theentire book of Psalms which was written by David are filled with David's viewof what he thought of the word of God. The 119th Psalm is full of quotes aboutthe word of God and how David loved and meditated in it day and night.
If you truly possess the love of God thenyou will despise evil and love righteousness. The world today in general thinksit's an abomination for a person to be honest and have the desire to do what isright. The apostle Peter calls the people of God peculiar. They are peculiarbecause they love righteousness and despise evil things.
The love of God will be manifested througha person in the things that they do especially toward other people. We areliving in the days that Jesus prophisied of when he said that the love of manywill wax cold. The love of God will go way beyond the natural love in allways.....
