Scripture References: James 1:21-22

According to Webster’s Dictionary the word doer” means one who does something, and it also means one who gets things done. If you will notice carefully in the two verses of scripture taken from the epistle of the book of James, the word doer is used here, which clearly reveals the fact that in order for Gods word to save us, then we must become a doer of what it says. James makes it crystal clear that it’s Gods word that does the saving, but you must understand and realize that Gods holy word of the scriptures are words of instructions that instructs in righteousness. The apostle Paul tells us these words recorded in II Timothy 3:16-17 that says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” To be instructed in righteousness means to be taught the truths of Gods revealed word that will spiritually make us righteous in the sight of God. To be made righteous is done by believing what Gods word teaches. It was Abraham that believed God and his belief in what God said was counted unto him for righteousness. Paul tells us this in Romans 4:3 saying<“For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.”

To believe God means to believe what he says. So therefore whatever God said to Abraham and told him to do, Abraham obeyed and did exactly as he was instructed. Now we as Abraham must also believe what God says and if we do, then our faith will be counted for righteousness as Abraham’s faith was counted for righteousness. What you need to understand is that in order to believe God we must believe what his word says. This is why the apostle James tells us to receive Gods word with meekness, which is able to save our souls, but notice James said we must be a doer of the word or else we will deceive ourselves.

Do you realize that the very first thing that we are told to do is to repent? Did not Jesus himself tell us to repent and believe the gospel in our scripture above in Mark 1:15? And did not Jesus also say these words as stated in Luke 13:3 that says, “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” This was also the first thing that the apostle Peter told the Jews on the day of Pentecost when they asked him what they must do. He told them as stated in Acts 2:38 these words saying, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” If a person is not willing to believe and obey exactly what Gods word says, then they will get absolutely nowhere spiritually. The apostle Paul tells us in Romans 1:16 that the gospel is the power of God unto salvation unto all that believe it. He also said in I Corinthians 1:18 these words saying, “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” It’s when a person believes and obeys what Gods word says that will impart salvation in their life, but to disbelieve and not obey it will be foolishness unto them. To do exactly what Jesus said, which is to repent and believe the gospel, this is simply done by willing to cease from a life of sin and begin to believe and obey what Gods word says. As you begin to believe and obey the many truths of Gods word you will begin to realize a difference in your life, as you are no longer in bondage to sin, but you will have complete victory in Christ Jesus. This is what Jesus meant when he said as stated in John 8: 31-32 that says, “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” To come to the Knowledge of these truths will totally cleanse you from inbred sin and you can relate to what John tells us in I John 3:9 that says, “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” This truth will be very real to you because you will experience this life being free from sins power and bondage. There are multiplied millions of confessing Christians in the world today saying and believing they are born of God, but yet they live in and commit sin against God in their daily lives. They have been deceived into believing lies that are totally opposed to what Gods word teaches on the subject of sin.

When these people are confronted with what Gods word truly says about sin, they will not accept what it says and they will continue right on in their sins believing they are born again regardless of what Gods word says about it.. This is hypocrisy in it’s highest form, but it does not seem to both them. This is because their conscience has been seared as with a hot iron causing them to think that good is evil and evil is good. These people will not accept and believe what Gods word says and will mock it to their own destruction. So what about you; do you believe and obey what Gods word says or do you mock it as fools do, as stated in Proverbs 14:9 that says, “Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.” He that has an ear to hear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.” AMENJAMES 1:21-22

“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
